چکیده
In one of the last paragraphs his Tractatus theologico-politicus (1670), Spinoza extolls harmony between people a diversity faiths, maintained by magistracy Amsterdam. However, he also seems apprehensive about possibility return chaos, such as during Arminian Controversies in Dutch Republic 1610s and English Civil War 1640s 1650s. The so-called Wolzogen affair 1668 probably rattled him. Spinoza’s fears would, however, prove groundless. Theological controversy public church was often fierce bitter, but did not threaten integrity State after 1619. Political ecclesiastical authorities supported discussions debate which new theological consensus could be hammered out. From examples Petrus de Witte’s Wederlegginge der Sociniaensche Dwaelingen Romeyn Hooghe’s Hieroglyphica, I will argue that freedom limited to universities, under aegis academic freedom, call for free research open fact everyday reality.
